Independent research to provide options to whiten teeth

How Effective Is Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening?

One of the methods of teeth whitening discussed in an earlier post here at Teeth Whitening Choices was Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening. The various options available were outlined as well as the basic methods in how the product works and what to expect if you use it.

As a follow-up I thought I would do some hunting around to find out a little more about the experiences that people have had using the product.

It was hoped that there would be countless stories of happy or unhappy experiences using the product and advice on what you might try or prefer to try to get the most out of Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening. Basic information such as whether it causes sensitive teeth, how long the whitening effect lasted and how easy it was to use.

Now, in trying to conduct this study I was expecting to find numerous sites where some sort of independent review or opinion would be offered on how effective Nupro White Gold was in whitening teeth. What I have actually found was a definite dearth of such sites, but plenty of landing pages, sales pitches and phony opinion pieces.

In the end I have gone searching through some US government sites in a bid to get some official opinions on Nupro.

The first study I found was a clinical trial that was performed by the Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Maryland, Baltimore Dental School, USA with an extract published on the National Center for Biotechnology Information site. The clinical trial is titled:

Clinical evaluation of a new 10% carbamide peroxide tooth-whitening agent.”

This was the study in which NUPRO Gold Tooth Whitening System was evaluated for efficacy according to the proposed ADA guidelines for acceptance.

The trial involved 60 participants who participated in a 14 day double blind clinical trial. The participants were matched for age, gender, and oral health status and were given either a placebo gel without the active agent or the NUPRO Gold active gel, which they wore in a custom-fabricated mouth guard for home use.

Each participant kept a daily diary and recorded such things as time of use, and hypersensitivity and tissue irritation and other possible side effects.

The results: The average shade change for the placebo users was less than one shade. The average shade change for the NUPRO Gold users was 6.96 shades. Tooth hypersensitivity varied from none to severe. Tissue irritation was minimal. The results of these evaluations indicate that NUPRO Gold is effective as a tooth-whitening system, when administered properly under the supervision of a dentist.

So, one clinical trial was found that I could determine was a trustworthy and independent review of the product. At that time it gave Nupro White Gold teeth whitening the thumbs up.

I’d still like to gather together some more relevant information about Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening kits and how effective they are. So in that case, perhaps anyone who has had some experience using the product might like to chime in by adding their comment here in this post.

I have been using Nupro White Gold for about 5 days. I have used the custom trays provided by my dentist filled with the gel overnight and noticed dramatic results. I experienced some sensitivity on the first 2 nights, but followed up with Sensodyne brand toothpaste and now feel nothing with the gel. Thank you for your research.

Not sure how old this article is, however I can offer first hand experience of NUPRO White Gold.

My old dentist, took molds, made trays and gave you two syringes of Nupro White Gold on your first visit (you had to come back about a week later to get your trays). Then every time we came back to get our teeth cleaned we got two new syringes.

This stuff is amazing. I never used both syringes before my next cleaning and the results are excellent. I haven’t used any in more than a year and my teeth are still white enough people mention it (and I smoke).

I will say my dentist advised I put in the trays when I sleep and use it everyday for a week to clear the syringe. I never did that regimen, for two reason. After three days my teeth we extremely sensitive to cold. When I just inhale cool air, there would be a twinge of pain. That disappeared after taking one night off. Secondly, after 3 days my teeth were plenty white, if I continued they might look like too white!

The solution does burn, if you get too much in your tray and it overflows onto your gums. Nothing horrible, it just prevented me from sleeping for about 15 minutes after application.

In the end I love the stuff and can’t recommend it enough. I stumbled accross this page on a search to order more.

Got this system from my dentist today…. (Nupro White Gold) 8/20/09 Started it tonight. Will leave feedback as I continue to use it but for now… I’ve had the custom made tray in for about an hour now and no sensitivity to my gums… no taste…. My dentist told me to use the tray when I go to bed and leave it in all night… instead of the directions wich say 15 minutes.
