How Effective Is Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening?
One of the methods of teeth whitening discussed in an earlier post here at Teeth Whitening Choices was Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening. The various options available were outlined as well as the basic methods in how the product works and what to expect if you use it.
As a follow-up I thought I would do some hunting around to find out a little more about the experiences that people have had using the product.
It was hoped that there would be countless stories of happy or unhappy experiences using the product and advice on what you might try or prefer to try to get the most out of Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening. Basic information such as whether it causes sensitive teeth, how long the whitening effect lasted and how easy it was to use.
Now, in trying to conduct this study I was expecting to find numerous sites where some sort of independent review or opinion would be offered on how effective Nupro White Gold was in whitening teeth. What I have actually found was a definite dearth of such sites, but plenty of landing pages, sales pitches and phony opinion pieces.
In the end I have gone searching through some US government sites in a bid to get some official opinions on Nupro.
The first study I found was a clinical trial that was performed by the Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Maryland, Baltimore Dental School, USA with an extract published on the National Center for Biotechnology Information site. The clinical trial is titled:
“Clinical evaluation of a new 10% carbamide peroxide tooth-whitening agent.”
This was the study in which NUPRO Gold Tooth Whitening System was evaluated for efficacy according to the proposed ADA guidelines for acceptance.
The trial involved 60 participants who participated in a 14 day double blind clinical trial. The participants were matched for age, gender, and oral health status and were given either a placebo gel without the active agent or the NUPRO Gold active gel, which they wore in a custom-fabricated mouth guard for home use.
Each participant kept a daily diary and recorded such things as time of use, and hypersensitivity and tissue irritation and other possible side effects.
The results: The average shade change for the placebo users was less than one shade. The average shade change for the NUPRO Gold users was 6.96 shades. Tooth hypersensitivity varied from none to severe. Tissue irritation was minimal. The results of these evaluations indicate that NUPRO Gold is effective as a tooth-whitening system, when administered properly under the supervision of a dentist.
So, one clinical trial was found that I could determine was a trustworthy and independent review of the product. At that time it gave Nupro White Gold teeth whitening the thumbs up.
I’d still like to gather together some more relevant information about Nupro White Gold Teeth Whitening kits and how effective they are. So in that case, perhaps anyone who has had some experience using the product might like to chime in by adding their comment here in this post.

I have been using Nupro White Gold for about 5 days. I have used the custom trays provided by my dentist filled with the gel overnight and noticed dramatic results. I experienced some sensitivity on the first 2 nights, but followed up with Sensodyne brand toothpaste and now feel nothing with the gel. Thank you for your research.
Not sure how old this article is, however I can offer first hand experience of NUPRO White Gold.
My old dentist, took molds, made trays and gave you two syringes of Nupro White Gold on your first visit (you had to come back about a week later to get your trays). Then every time we came back to get our teeth cleaned we got two new syringes.
This stuff is amazing. I never used both syringes before my next cleaning and the results are excellent. I haven’t used any in more than a year and my teeth are still white enough people mention it (and I smoke).
I will say my dentist advised I put in the trays when I sleep and use it everyday for a week to clear the syringe. I never did that regimen, for two reason. After three days my teeth we extremely sensitive to cold. When I just inhale cool air, there would be a twinge of pain. That disappeared after taking one night off. Secondly, after 3 days my teeth were plenty white, if I continued they might look like too white!
The solution does burn, if you get too much in your tray and it overflows onto your gums. Nothing horrible, it just prevented me from sleeping for about 15 minutes after application.
In the end I love the stuff and can’t recommend it enough. I stumbled accross this page on a search to order more.
Got this system from my dentist today…. (Nupro White Gold) 8/20/09 Started it tonight. Will leave feedback as I continue to use it but for now… I’ve had the custom made tray in for about an hour now and no sensitivity to my gums… no taste…. My dentist told me to use the tray when I go to bed and leave it in all night… instead of the directions wich say 15 minutes.
I just started using it today. I will update. No bad tastes yet so that is better than the one I used 4 years ago!
Started using today, lets see how its gonna be in 5 days!
I had just finished my treatment with Nupro White Gold and I have excellent rersults. I am very satisfied! My dentist got me a special price for it since it is only available in Manila but still costly though. I only had minor experience of teeth sensitivity. I even had to wear them overnight.
I am glad we have this product. I hope I could get it cheaper… but it would be better if my bleached teeth with stay white much longer…
Great product. I used to buy the over-the-shelf version and have never seen such a result… ever. I started to get comments the day after the first application. I have gone through two syringes which amounts to about 6 applications (top and bottom teeth) and am pleased. I actually came upon this after searching to order more. I hope it’s not an addition but I am in love with my new whiter teeth. (Smile… ping)! Love it.
I really like Nupro White Gold however, I need to ask if anyone has stopped drinking their morning coffee for fear that it may leave permanent stains? My dentist has scared me into thinking that I can’t or shouldn’t drink my coffee this week while using the whitener because she said the teeth are more porous and able to be stained even more? Has anyone experienced this? I’d really like to have some morning coffee!
I just started using Nupro three days ago. I have used it one hour each day and i have noticed dramatic results. I had sensitivity with the second use, but i attributed that to having too much gel in the tray and it went on my gums. I will continue to monitor the changes, presently i am pleased with the results.
Nupro White Gold was recommended to me by my dentist and i LOVE it. I used the product every night for 2 weeks, then would “touch up” every now and then. I got compliments from a lot of people about how pretty and white my teeth were. I didn’t experience any side effects either. I highly recommend it.
This stuff isn’t working as well as i hoped. I used two syringes, and left the trays on overnight every night for about 10 days. My teeth bleached unevenly, as the tips were whiter than the gumline, and there are white spots on my teeth now which were not there before. I’m going back to the dentist for more tubes in hopes that the color will even out.
I just started using mine yesterday. I hate having my trays in. The gel is really irritating my gums. But I’m going to still use it, I think it will be worth it.
I’m not sure when this article was written, but i thought i’d leave a comment.
My dentist put me and a plan called “white for life”, he made my tray and gave me my first 2 syringes of gel for free as an engagement gift. After that, I get 2 additional syringes of gel at each 6 month cleaning. He told me to use it every night (overnight) for 2 weeks, and then I can use it as much or as little as I want.
Today is day 4 and I have already noticed a big difference.
One night I did accidentally put too much gel in my tray and it overflowed onto my gum line, and it caused some discomfort, and made a white spot on my gums, which disappeared within a few hours. The day after that, my gums were slightly sensitive, and when I brushed, they bled a little bit in that spot.
On the second or so day, I did notice a little bit of sensitivity, but my dentist advised me that if I noticed sensitivity to take the end of a q-tip and put sensodyne toothpaste in my trays and wear that overnight instead of my bleach. I did that and everything was fine the next day and I wore the trays with bleach the next night.
So far, I give this product 2 thumbs up. It’s user friendly and cost effective. (for me at least). Plus gives me incentive to keep up with my 6 months cleanings!
I hope this was helpful!!
Gums irritated at first using gel. Difficulty sleeping at night with trays first two nights. Gel appears to be either to thick, or to old. Gel does not spread well inside trays. Tonght, will be 5 times. So far no change.
I started using Nupro four nights ago and after the first night, I was amazed at the difference it made. I am a Tetracycline baby and my teeth are permanently stained yellow. I can’t afford Veneers and thought I will be cursed for life with ugly teeth. My teeth will never be white but let me tell you, with this stuff, I LIKE the results. I feel like I have a great smile now. I can’t wait to see the results after the full treatment. I have used other whitening products and I got the same results after one night using Nupro that I did with the other products for two full weeks.

I have used the 15% a couple of months ago. It was not working fast enough for me so I went to get a ZOOM teeth whitening. Oiy-vay! The procedure was uncomfortable but not too bad, it took 2 hours. On my way home my front teeth got severe, painful, agonizing, sharp shooting pains that felt like they were shooting through the top of my head. I cried all the way home, the dentist had to prescribe pain pills. My teeth hurt for 2 day and the inside of my bottom and top lips were literally raw and blistered for over a week and a half. My lips were dry and very chapped. I could NOT brush my teeth for 2 days, then finally had to with covering my gums with cloth as I brushed. I do not advise ZOOM to anyone. Ok, back to the whitening product. I am giving it a try again. I will be patient this time. p.s. ZOOM does not last either. It’s not worth the $$$, time or pain. AND your teeth go right back to their original color unless you continue constantly with whitening trays, can’t have cola, chocolate, coffee, tea, berries, anything red, orange….you get the point by now. So, I will stick with the 15% and hope for the best. Whew, glad I got that off my chest.
